About Big Bang Education

A chance encounter with a Scitech Roadshow bus in a remote Western Australian town was the catalyst for a dramatic career change for Brett Pearce. He made the leap from natural resource management to science education in 2006 and hasn’t looked back since. Brett went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Science Communication from the Australian National University and work at some of Australia’s leading science education organisations, including Scitech (WA), Questacon (ACT), and CSIRO Education (QLD).

Aimee Wilson, meanwhile, completed the same Graduate Diploma in Science Communication at the Australian National University, after realising during her Science degree that her favourite part was telling other people about the amazing things she had learnt. She went on to communicate science and hone her workshop facilitation skills through many diverse roles, including writing and producing children’s television, developing environmental education resources, and presenting financial literacy workshops for primary school students.

In 2013, following the introduction of the Australian Curriculum and changes to the science incursion landscape in Queensland, Brett saw an opportunity to create hands-on science programs for schools that were not just engaging and educational for students, but also built around curriculum unit topics to assist teachers in achieving outcomes. Together with Aimee, he developed a suite of Physical Sciences programs for Prep to Year 6, and put the foundations in place to offer an exciting new science incursion experience to Brisbane area schools.

Big Bang Education presented its first school workshops in May 2014 to overwhelmingly positive feedback from teachers and students alike. Since then, their program offering has expanded to include a suite of workshops aligning with Chemical Sciences units from Prep to Year 6, as well as programs for early childhood education and outside school hours care (OSHC) centres. The e team has also expanded, with new presenters joining the Big Bang Education team in Term 2, 2019.

Our Vacation Care Science programs are available on a range of exciting themes.

Big Bang Education has worked with many of Queensland’s leading educational and cultural institutions, including the Queensland Museum Network, CSIRO Education, World Science Festival, The Ekka, and Woodford Folk Festival.

Many of the school workshop programs are still presented in their original format and are consistently rebooked year after year by teachers who have made Big Bang Education an integral part of their Science teaching plan. This is testament to the programs’ enduring quality and value.
