Big Bang Education’s Year 5 Physical Sciences program has been designed to help teachers achieve the Australian Curriculum science understanding in Physical Sciences:

  • Light from a source forms shadows and can be absorbed, reflected and refracted (ACSSU080).

Year 5 students will participate in a hands-on workshop investigating the properties of light. Students will learn about how light is reflected, refracted and absorbed by different materials; experiment with mirrors to direct beams of light; observe the effects of different coloured light on the appearance of an object; and be surprised by optical illusions.

 

Workshops are facilitated by a professional science educator with over 10 years of experience.

Program Outline

The program includes:

  • 90 minute hands-on workshop for each individual class (maximum of 30 children per group)
  • Follow-up worksheets emailed to the booking teacher

Depending on your daily timetable, we can cater for 2-4 classes per day.

Requirements

  • A large indoor space – your school hall is ideal!
  • 10 large tables for workshop materials
  • Access to a power point

No access to water is required for this program.
